It is a bit odd that I was back at school on Wednesday, only to be off on Thursday because it was Waitangi Day. There is absolutely no way I can complain about this, because on that day I got to see a Wellington Phoenix football game!
But that's not all! A couple of weeks earlier, I found out that I had the opportunity to go on a behind the scenes tour of the stadium. Needless to say, that wasn't something I was going to say no to. We ended up doing this on the 6th. I also got to meet some of the players, get things signed, and even be one of the "honour guards", which are the people who hold the flags as the players come out of the tunnel.
During the tour I was also able to be near the pitch while the players practiced. As awesome as this was, it did result in the controller for my wheelchair to get knocked out of position by a ball hitting it at a high speed. The good news is that it was still useable, and I had this happen to me while doing something epic!
I don't know if you can notice it, but this is exactly what happened to the controller
I have been quite busy on Sunday as well, as I did a bake sale to help raise more funds for my wish trip to Sweden later this year. I estimate that we raised about $300 from this. A big thank you to anyone who purchased our tasty home baked goods, as this is going to go a long way in making my wish happen. I also owe a big thank you to my friends who helped me out on the day!
There is not much else to update you on for now, but as always I will continue to keep you updated! I will conclude this post with some photos of what I had signed.
For now, this is Sylas Barker, signing off until next time!
