Sweden is truly an amazing country in my opinion! Now I do not know what you think about this awesome country located in the heart of Scandinavia, but after reading these cool things about Sweden, you too might think the same!
Me and a friend messing around in a Minecraft world
In case you are not familiar with this iconic video game played by millions of people today, it is a blocky sandbox/survival game created by the Swedish game developer Markus Persson, or better known as Notch. Mojang Studios, the games publisher is to this day headquartered in the Swedish capital of Stockholm. Now I'm sure you are wondering why Sweden being the birthplace of Minecraft makes it so special in my mind. To be honest with you, when I am playing Minecraft, it feels quite nice knowing it first came from such an awesome country!
One thing I admire about Sweden is the fact that it is a highly innovative country, as there have been many world changing inventions first created in this country! Also, did you know that many things you use in your every day life have Swedish origins? One of those is the celsius thermometer, which most of us use to tell how hot or cold it is. This was first invented by the Swedish scientist Anders Celsius all the way back in 1742! Did you also know that the three-point seatbelt, which you most likely have in your car is also a Swedish invention? It was first invented by Nils Bohlin in 1959, and nowadays it saves an average of thousands of lives on the road each year! These are just some of the things that were first invented in Sweden, there are still many more, but the problem is that there are just too many for me to cram into one blog post!
One cool thing about being an innovative country is getting to be home to some well known brands of vehicles. Over the years, a number of well known car and truck brands like Volvo, Scania, and Saab have come out of Sweden!

And a 2002 Saab 9-3!
By the way, the company Saab not only produced reliable cars, but they also produced many aircraft, consisting of regional airliners and military planes, like the Saab 340 and Gripen fighter jet!
I say "produced" because Saab sadly stopped producing cars as of 2014. The Saab 340 and Saab 2000, both being the regional airliners produced by them are also no longer in production. Nowadays, Saab specializes in the production of military equipment, including fighter jets and even missiles.

Due to its very northern coordinates, many parts of Sweden experience what is known as the "midnight sun" during the summer months!
Just a sunset in this image, but this is what midnight looks like in the summer in many parts of Sweden!
While the thought of there being daylight at all hours of the day might sound totally epic, it makes it difficult to keep track of time however. I'm already imagining a scenario in my brain of someone thinking its early evening, when in reality its just ten minutes to midnight. I'd imagine that the locals are quite used to this phenomenon though.
Regardless, I still find this fact really cool, and I feel like this would be a really awesome thing to experience!
So that is my list of awesome things about Sweden, but don't tune out just yet! This is just one of many posts I will be writing in the leadup to my trip! As the time gets closer, I will be writing posts about things I am getting up to, to allow you to learn more about me! I will also continue writing about Sweden in this blog!
I also want to take some time to thank everyone who has donated to or shared the Give a Little page! As I said before, any donation, big or small is greatly appreciated! If you have not already donated to or shared the fundraiser and wish to do so, you can view the Give a Little page here
